Acne scars appear after acne pockets have disappeared. Acne scars come in a different variety: ice-pick shaped scars, which are relatively narrow and deep, and mostly appear on the cheeks. Atrophic scars are shallow and not very much elevated; they become lighter and less noticeable with time. Hypertrophic and keloid scars are reddish elevated portions of the skin. Keloid scars may spread and cause further skin damage.
